This is from September 30th 2011 Straight from Atherton...

The American Le Mans Series unveiled its 2012 schedule Friday at Road Atlanta, featuring an increase to 11 events but two that are yet-to-be-determined.

The announcement, which came during the series' annual "State of the Series" address, confirmed the existing nine races featured on this year's calendar but with a few date changes.

Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, which hosted the penultimate round this year, moves back to a spring event, with the popular California circuit hosting the third round of the season on May 12. The 15th annual Petit Le Mans, meanwhile, has been moved to Oct. 20, a date that's three weeks later than this year's season-finale.

Two TBD events, one penciled in for May or June and another for September or October, were also revealed. American Le Mans Series President and CEO Scott Atherton confirmed to SPEED.com that there are currently three interested events vying for the two slots in the calendar but would not disclose who they are.

“Each year we strive to put together a calendar of events that features the top tier of road and street-racing venues while impacting major urban markets,” said Atherton. “Our 2012 schedule definitely accomplishes these two key goals.”

Atherton expects the two TBD events to be confirmed by the end of October.

2012 American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón Schedule:

March 17 - Sebring International Raceway Sebring, Fla.
April 14 - Long Beach Street Circuit Long Beach, Calif.
May 12 - Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca Monterey, Calif.
May/June - TBD
July 7 - Lime Rock Park Lakeville, Conn.
July 21 - Mosport International Raceway Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada
Aug. 4 - Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course Lexington, Ohio
Aug. 18 - Road America Elkhart Lake, Wis.
Sept. 1 - Baltimore Street Circuit Baltimore, Md.
Sept./Oct. - TBD
Oct. 20 - Petit Le Mans Braselton, Ga.

Aim High For The Corvette Holidays
December 18 2011 06:49:53 PM EST
By now, you've all read the news about the post-party gun / taser shooting over at the Corvette Museum grounds. T'was all about taking a bullet for love of loud music. As Bowling Green's Police Chief put it, "[must have been]...Music worth dying over."

OK... But, enough.
Except here's OUR spin, for this Holiday Season.

On YOUR Wish List, what Corvette News, Fact, Feature, Car, Event, and / or Fantasy would you want to find in your Corvette gift pile that would be worth TAKING A BULLET FOR?
Any fantasy wish at all, about -

* The C7? The Corvette Racing C6R's?
* The CR Driver line-up? godug? The Corvette 'suits' at GM?
* The ultimate Corvette trip, meet-up?

Whatever is in your 'sugar-plum red' Corvette head.
Take aim. Take your best shot!
Happy Holidays.

Has there been any spy photos of the 2012 livery-assuming they are changing...?

More Corvette Spec Racing
November 29 2011 08:51:48 AM EST
Here's a Jalopnik.com post from a BBV [professional] friend AND [clearly] a friend of Corvette that poses a question for racing Corvette.

Their storyline of putting more Corvette racecars [more production-based Corvette racecars] onto the professional race tracks / events has a number of nuances to it -

* Build / sell more Corvette racecars [See Aston Martin / Porsche for the biz case / formula]? Or....

* Rebuild a Corvette spec series, like Porsche Cup [and all other 1-make series around the globe]?

We recognize that the [production-evolved] ALMS GT C6R will be back to fight the defending BMW [and others]. The Grand-Am Daytona Prototype body IS a Chevy move to put more Corvettes out there [But, spend the $ on this or a GT4-spec C6 or C7?]. World Challenge Corvette teams will be back in 2012.

AND grass-roots Corvettes are 'everywhere', thanks to so many Corvette owner / racers.

* But, maybe they all should be unified under a 'Team Jake' Grassroots Identity and Benefits-Support Program? Yes, we have an idea to pitch to GM!

All considered, what do you think about the Jalopnik.com ideas to race / market Corvette?

PS - While Porsche, Lotus, et al are busy announcing "Performance / Driving Experience Centers / Tracks" across the US / globe, is not Bowling Green and the Corvette Museum on a path to do the same? Timeline, anyone?

Keep an out for ORECA Courage FLM09 prototype in the LMPC class of ALMS. They use the 6.2L LS3 Corvette engine and the chassis is built by KaTech.

Corvette Races Daytona. So....
November 15 2011 04:33:42 PM ESTGM Media
That was the storyline / rationale behind the announcement of this car - That Corvette has a storied history of speed at Daytona and the Daytona24 - including the famous 2001 C5R overall D24 win.

And that racing Corvette is always about 'Image, Customer Connection, and Technology Transfer'.
Hence, to Chevy Racing, building a Corvette body for the DPG3 chassis [Riley, Coyote, Dallara] and evolving Chevy V8 power via Grand-Am accomplishes all that AT Daytona.

Sure looks the part.

Speed.com story here.
Official GM media photos here.
And look where the spilt rear window ended up.

Spirit of Daytona will be fielding the "A" Team of Corvette drivers i.e. Garcia, Gavin and Westbrook so assuming the car works for 24 hours which is going to be a big ask they certainly have the drivers to deliver the race pace for an overall win.

Real Corvette?
November 14 2011 06:19:54 AM EST
Jalopnik.com says they got pics of the 2014 C7 Corvette. The real C7.
And J.com is going to show the world today, at noon EST time. [ now live ]

Only a few hours to guess if we will be IMpressed. Or DEpressed.

Will the younger flair fly? Or just look like a next-gen RX7? Will the styling move Corvette design forward and just be a visual nudge of the C6? Will C7 tech be advanced or evo, as the most recent rumors conservatively suggested?

One last chance to voice your C7 hopes, wishes, desires. Go!

You know if you go back and look at the 'Grand Sport C7' pics of the chassis under a GS mule body - those exhaust tips are the exact size & spacing. Clever inclusion on the 'renderings' or real design? Interesting...

True Corvette?
October 26 2011 08:19:56 AM EST
Someone better check the record for most comments on a BBV post.
Because this one might reset the count.

Rumor is that GM Racing will debut Chevy's 2012 Grand-Am DPG3 [Daytona Prototype 3rd generation] at SEMA next week. And the tube-chassis rear-engine racecar will be branded CORVETTE!

FYI - It likely will NOT be painted like Jake.
A few GM'ers still struggle with such an overt Jake identity for Corvette, even as a race car.

* Chevy never let Pratt + Miller take this Corvette LMP beyond a wind tunnel model.
So much for competing for overall wins at Le Mans.

* And now, if true, the ALMS Corvette will have to fight headlines with a 'Silhouette Vette'.
So much for all that 'From Track to Street' / 'Racing improves the real Corvette' integrity speak.

What do you think?
Is it WTF time? Or time to wait and see what the true Corvette Racing story will be for 2012?

I doubt CR is leaving ALMS, Shifter. R/GA rules bans direct involvement by the manufacturers. Or at least, that's what I was told.
